Description
Double coats blow out twice a year, and the couch pays for it. One side of this rake works through the undercoat and the other side finishes, so you lift out the loose undercoat without hacking at the coat.
Use it a few minutes at a time with light pressure, and never go over the same spot twice. It's made for double-coated breeds such as kelpies, collies, shepherds and goldens.
Materials and size
- The teeth are curved stainless steel.
- The handle has a soft, shaped grip.
- The large head suits big dogs; the small head suits smaller dogs and tight spots.
Care
- Pull the fur out of the teeth after each session.
- Wipe it dry before you put it away.
- Don't use it on single-coated dogs.

How to use it without wrecking the coat
- 1
Start with the wide side
Work in the direction the coat grows, using light pressure. Let the teeth do the work.
- 2
Keep sessions short
A few minutes at a time through the blow-out is better than one long session.
- 3
Finish and stop
Tidy up with the finer side, then stop before the top coat starts to look thin.
Questions about the Undercoat Rake
Still have a question? Ask our helper in the corner of the screen, or browse the help centre.
Will it cut my dog's coat?
Any rake can damage a coat if it's pushed too hard. Use light pressure, keep sessions short and never go over the same spot twice, and it should lift loose undercoat without thinning the top coat.
Large or small?
The large head covers big dogs quickly. The small head suits small dogs and tight spots like behind the ears.
Is it suitable for short-haired dogs?
It's made for double coats. Single-coated dogs don't have the undercoat it's designed to remove.
